The FCC will vote on plans for net neutrality protections at a meeting on October 19. The commission is expected reinstate net neutrality rules rescinded under President Trump. According to the agenda, “The Commission will consider a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that proposes to reestablish the Commission’s authority over broadband Internet access service by classifying it as a telecommunications service under Title II of the Communications Act, which would allow the Commission to protect consumers by issuing straightforward, clear rules to prevent Internet service providers from engaging in practices harmful to consumers, competition, and public safety; establish a uniform, national regulatory approach rather than disparate requirements that vary state-by-state; strengthen the Commission’s ability to secure communications networks and critical infrastructure against national security threats; and enable the Commission to protect public safety during natural disasters and other emergencies.”

The BBC has removed seven Arab journalists from the air over allegations of pro-Hamas social media activity after the attacks in Israel. “We are urgently investigating this matter,” said a BBC spokesman. “We take allegations of breaches of our editorial and social media guidelines with the utmost seriousness, and if and when we find breaches we will act, including taking disciplinary action.” The investigation follows a report by the watchdog group Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis which detailed social-media activity “amounting to hate speech.”

NBC will host the third Republican presidential debate, set for November 8 at 10p in Miami. Debate partners include Salem Radio Network and the Republican Jewish Coalition, and Rumble to live stream.

Season four of “The Chosen,” a historical drama following the life of Jesus Christ, will premiere in theaters before launching on television. The season’s rollout starts with a two-week run of episodes 1-3 on February 1.

Just when he thought he was in Stephen Colbert was pushed out of his “Late Show” studio by a Covid diagnosis. Colbert is continuing with the show, but his monologue will be done from home.

Paula Reid has been named chief legal affairs correspondent at CNN. Reid joined the network in 2021 and has had plenty of airtime covering investigations into former President Trump and President Biden.

Cris Abrego and Eva Longoria have formed a new media holding company and premium content studio, Hyphenate Media Group. The new venture will invest in creator-led enterprises as well as develop and produce its own slate of original programming. Abrego will serve as the CEO of the company, and Longoria will serve as its Chief Creative Officer. Banijay, where Abrego has served as Chairman of the Americas since 2020, has made a strategic investment in the new business.

Israel-based global studio SIPUR, in association with Israeli broadcaster HOT Channel 8 and HSCC, has begun production on a documentary telling the tragic story of the October 7 Hamas massacre of hundreds at the international Tribe of Nova’s Supernova Music Festival in Kibbutz Re’im. "I have seen things in my life. I have lived through wars; I have fought in wars and I have even filmed during a war,” said Yariv Mozer (“Ben Gurion: Epilogue”), who will direct the project. “But nothing prepared me to the harsh images I have seen in the remains of the massacre that took place at the Nova music festival. I see it as my duty as a documentary filmmaker to bring to the world the testimonies and horrific stories from the survivors of this slaughter."

National Geographic, along with Rex, has ordered “Top Gun: The Next Generation” (w/t), a docuseries following US Navy student pilots as they work to join the next generation of the Navy’s elite strike fighter pilots.

National Geographic Documentary Films has entered into a first-look deal for feature documentaries with the newly formed production company, Signpost Pictures, helmed by director Sara Dosa and producer Shane Boris. As part of the first look, Dosa, Boris and their producing partner at Signpost Pictures, Elijah Stevens, are developing two new films: “On Time and Water” (w/t), based on the book by the same name, and Untitled Mexican Earthquake Project.

2018 thriller 29 Seconds is being adapted as a limited TV series by Frank Spotnitz’s Big Light Productions. Written by Sara Collins (“The Confessions of Frannie Langton”), the project, under the working title “One Name,” will be executive produced by Spotnitz and Elizabeth Kesses of EJK Productions alongside Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios.

The cast of “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent” was unveiled at MIPCOM. The international version of NBC’s Dick Wolf franchise, ordered by Canada’s Citytv, includes Aden Young (“Rectify”), Kathleen Munroe (“City on Fire”), Karen Robinson (“Schitt’s Creek”) K.C. Collins (“The Cleaning Lady”), Nicola Correia-Damude (“Shadowhunters”), and Araya Mengesha (“Nobody”).

Zoonicorn LLC and Toonz Entertainment have greenlit a third season of preschool series “Zoonicorn.” The show’s seven-minute episodes in the US can be found on Peacock, Happy Kids TV and Kidoodle, along with other streaming services.

Al Roker Entertainment has optioned Grief is Love: Living with Loss by best-selling author Marisa Renee Lee. The book is “a profound exploration of the human spirit, love, and resilience during our most difficult times,” said Roker, CEO of Al Roker Entertainment. “Everyone, including myself, is touched by grief, so we are honored to bring this deeply moving narrative to the screen."

After a lengthy audition process, “Rick and Morty” found new voices for its main characters. Taking over on Sunday’s season premiere were Alan Cardoni and Harry Belden. Justin Rouland, series co-creator and voice of the characters, left the Adult Swim animated series in January following charges (since dropped) of domestic violence. “Rick and Morty” launched in 2013.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Season three of “NFL Icons” premieres Saturday, October 21 at 10p. The four-parter will feature Pro Football Hall of Famers Jim Brown, Bill Cowher, Mike Singletary and Charles Woodson.

National Geographic shared the lineup of narrators for three natural history shows. Awkwafina (“The Little Mermaid,” “Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens”) narrates National Geographic Disney+ Original “A Real Bug’s Life”; Angela Bassett (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”) exec produces and narrates “Queens”; and Jeremy Renner (“Avengers,” “Rennervations”) narrates “Incredible Animal Journeys.”

STREAMING

MuxIP, provider of automated solutions for ad-supported streaming, has launched EQUUS Television, an equestrian destination, across FAST platforms globally, available to Samsung TV+, LG Channels, Amazon Freevee, and others. MuxIP’s FASTHub for OTT platform will deliver EQUUS Television’s 200+ hours of content.

Factual specialist Autentic and film production company Terra Mater Studios have announced the launch of Terra Mater WILD, a joint nature and wildlife FAST channel. Terra Mater WILD features Terra Mater Studios wildlife productions as well as selected third party wildlife and nature content.

Three of All3Media International’s lifestyle FAST/Live TV channels have launched on Amazon Freevee: “Gardening with Monty Don,” “Great British Menu,” and “Fifth Gear.” The FAST channels are also distributed on other streaming services in the US.

Blue Ant Media has expanded its partnership with Samsung TV Plus as part of a broad deal that includes the launch of three free streaming channels – Homeful, HauntTV and Love Pets – as well as hundreds of hours of actual content from Blue Ant Media’s international distribution arm headed to the platform.

A Super Bowl set in London? “That is not out of the question,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell recently told a fan forum in the British capital, as the league moves to grow its brand globally. But for now, Goodell added, “Super Bowls will remain in cities that have franchises.” Next in line are Las Vegas, New Orleans and Santa Clara, CA.

The International Olympic Committee voted on Monday to include lacrosse in the 2028 Summer Olympics in LA. It will be the sixth time lacrosse has been included in the Olympics, but the first time as a medal sport since the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. Lacrosse is among five “new” sports – baseball/softball, cricket, flag football and squash – recommended by the LA28 Organizing Committee and approved by the IOC.

LiveRamp and Yahoo struck an expanded partnership that enables publishers using LiveRamp’s Authenticated Traffic Solution to take advantage of cookieless identity solution, Yahoo ConnectID. “We strongly believe in authenticated addressability, and this partnership enables greater reach that will endure beyond third-party signal loss,” said Elizabeth Herbst-Brady, Chief Revenue Officer at Yahoo. “We’re making it easier for marketers and publishers to leverage these solutions and maximize results, while simultaneously supporting more seamless transactions across the open Web.”
